General Oral Hygiene
We are much more interested in teaching you excellent oral hygiene than we are in filling teeth. Nothing feels better than when you have had a visit to the dentist and the build up of tartar and plaque has been removed from your teeth. We will instruct you on how to care for your teeth using toothbrush techniques, flossing and for some people we may recommend using a special toothpaste or mouthwash to help prevent cavities or gum problems.
Fissure Sealant
It is common to treat those teeth at risk of decay with sealants. Fissures are the grooves that naturally occur on the biting surfaces of molar teeth. If the fissures are deep and narrow the toothbrush bristles cannot clean out food particles which leave the tooth prone to decay. Fissure sealants are plastic coatings that fill the fissures and protect teeth from plaque build up and acid attacks. Your dentist may suggest the use of sealants after an examination of your child’s teeth.
Digital X-rays
If you have not had a check up within the last two years, or if the dentist sees something of concern during examination, x-rays may be indicated. Our practice is equipped with the latest digital x-rays which means that you will get instant results and any exposure is the absolute minimum possible.
Mouthguards
A mouthguard should be worn when playing any sport where there is a risk of a blow to the face. It helps to prevent injury by absorbing shock, helping to keep the teeth in their sockets even in the event of a blow to the teeth. Custom fitted mouthguards fit snugly over the upper teeth and provide the best protection against jaw fractures and broken or lost teeth. For more information read our Mouthguard Information Sheet.
