Protect your teeth with these mouthguard pro tips from the Australian Dental Association.
- Wear a mouthguard during sport and training to protect your teeth and mouth from injury.
- Custom-fitted mouthguards are made by dentists to fit securely around the teeth and gums.
- They provide the highest level of protection, allow for easy speaking and breathing, are comfortable to wear and will not move around or fall out.
- Mouthguards bought from sports stores or pharmacies are called boil-and-bite mouthguards. The thickness of these mouthguards is often uneven. They can be uncomfortable, fit poorly, and interfere with speaking and breathing. These mouthguards offer only slightly better protection than wearing no mouthguard at all.
- Do not forget to brush twice each day and floss at least once daily.
- And visit your dentist regularly to prevent problems, and keep on smiling.
