Protect your teeth from sugar with these pro tips from the Australian Dental Association. Sugar is a carbohydrate which provides the human body with energy.
What is sugar?
Many people think of sugar as white granules, but did you know, sugar comes in multiple forms and is represented by over 50 names? Therefore, it is often hard to detect on the ingredient list of food labels.
How much sugar to consume
The World Health Organisation recommends adults consume six or less teaspoons of sugar per day to reduce their risk of developing tooth decay. To keep our teeth healthy, it’s important that we recognise sugar in all its disguises.
Common grocery items
Common grocery items you may not realise have high sugar content can include breakfast cereals, pre-made marinade sources, and salad dressings. Watch out for packaging claims such as no added sugar. This does not always mean the food is low in sugar or tooth-friendly.
And do not forget to brush twice each day and floss at least once daily.
And visit your dentist regularly to prevent problems and keep on smiling.
